Rollerball Mania! A look at 4 eye rollers

By now you probably know about my under eye issues. Could it be my constant complaining? Fine lines, dryness, crow’s feet and under eye bags. The newest craze in eye treatments, the rollerball claims to cure my under eye woes. Undereye bags are caused by excessive fluid; the rollerball was developed to reduce under eye puffiness by massaging the area thereby reducing the puffiness.

How does the rollerball fare? I tried four different brands and here are my scientific (not) findings:

Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller ($13)– the least expensive of the four tested and it shows in the results, or lack thereof. The roller is metal but feels plastic. I do feel this makes a difference in the massaging effect, definitely in the cooling effect. It contains caffeine to reduce puffiness and ProVitamin B5 to refresh and hydrate the under eye area. It does neither, save your money. In all fairness, this is an inexpensive choice so I don’t expect it to work miracles, but it should do something!

Dermaglow Triple Action Eye Lift ($35?) -Dermaglow is a Canadian skincare company that has been around since 2000. This rollerball has an ingredient called escin which is supposed to increase circulation.  It didn’t, nor did it seem to absorb as well as the other brands.  The packaging isn’t as user friendly as the Olay–it’s a little hard to get the product flowing into the roller–you have it turn it upside down and shake it a few times. I didn’t notice any real effectiveness with the massaging part. The serum feels good but I found I always got too little or too much.

Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller ($20)– does a great job of reducing puffiness and the massaging part was the most effective of all four brands tested. This is also the only roller with three small metal balls instead of one large one; perhaps that’s the difference in the performance.  I also think the design of the Olay is the best of all. It is a click pen type; you click to get the serum into the roller– this is much more effective than having to tap the others because it dispenses the right amount of product each time.  This was my favorite of the bunch!

Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage ($25.50)- this is the only roller with a cooling effect, which feels very nice. It also provides a bit of a firming effect which none of the others did. The metal massage ball did ease my puffiness, but only temporarily.  The Olay did a much better job and the de-puffing effect lasted a lot longer. This does, however feel really, really good and runs a close second to Olay.

And the winner is…….

#1  Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller! Woohoo, the crowd roars!!! The Olay brand is the most effective at reducing puffiness. The packaging is perfect for this type of product and is the only brand tested with the click pen– plus it’s reasonably priced. You can always find a sale or coupon on Olay products which it makes it even more appealing!

#2 and the runner up…….Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage! Cheers! I really like the cooling effect, the packaging is easy to use. Absorbs fast and has a firming effect.

#3 Dermaglow Triple Action Eye Lift…okay, but the packaging could be improved upon, massage & de-puffing effect margainal. Too pricey for a C ranked product.

#4 out of 4  Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller…spend a few dollars more and get the Olay Regenerist Anti-Aging Eye Roller and you will be much happier!
